Special Event on AI, Education, and the Skills Gap

We're bringing together educators and industry experts to discuss the role of artificial intelligence (AI), education, and a growing demand for a tech-driven labour pool. What skills will employers be looking for in the AI-powered economy? How can education help us adapt to a future in which AI plays an increasingly important role? How might education itself be changed by the use of AI in the classroom? Meet a panel of experts who will discuss AI, education, and workforce development initiatives in the Cayman Islands. 

Guest Speakers


  • Kendra Okonski, Moderator 

    Kendra Okonski founded and runs 345Robotics, an extracurricular organisation that enables children and young people in the Cayman Islands to benefit from global robotics and STEM education initiatives. In her professional life she is an experienced writer/editor, communicator, and connector of people and ideas. A dedicated community volunteer, she also serves as a trustee of a UK charity with an educational purpose and remit.

  • Kevin Brett, Panelist 

    Kevin Brett is a Director at KPMG, skilled innovator, and AI enthusiast. With a finance background, he has over a decade of global audit experience for hedge funds. Kevin leads an automation-focused team and drives innovation at KPMG. As the Chair of the Audit and Technology Committee, he combines financial expertise with AI integration knowledge. Beyond his professional career, Kevin supports philanthropic organizations. With his expertise in AI, finance, and innovation, he offers valuable insights on transforming education.

  • Luke Grimmett, Panelist 

    Luke Grimmett is a CIS STEAM teacher, with almost a decade of teaching experience. In 2010, he received his Bachelor in Science - BS Elementary Education and Teaching, at Oklahoma State University. Luke obtained his Masters degree in 2022, in STEM teaching at American College of Education. He now finds himself in Grand Cayman teaching STEM to elementary students.

  • Chris Joseph, Panelist 

    Chris Joseph is currently a Special Advisor, Institutional Renewal and Advancement, at International College of the Cayman Islands (ICCI). Over the past 25 years he has worked for private, public and academic sector organizations from around the world supporting transformational change. Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Arts degree in Political Science, as well as a PhD in International Development and Land Administration.

  • Genève Phillip-Durham, Panelist 

    Dr. Genève Phillip-Durham holds a Bsc. in Public Sector Management, Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations, Msc. in Global Studies, and PhD. in International Relations. She is currently the Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University College of Cayman Islands. She also serves as the Book Reviews Editor for the Island Studies Journal- an international peer-reviewed journal, and Secretary of the Board of Directors for Solar Head of State- an international NGO which focuses on sustainability and renewable energy. Genève has a keen interest in contributing to the political economy of development, specifically in Caribbean small island developing states and non-independent territories. She has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics such as; capacity and institution building, policy practice, good governance, diversification and resilience in the Caribbean.
